Submitting the Plan of Study
SIRLS students develop a Plan of Study, have it approved by their advisor, and submit it to SIRLS for final approval. The POS should be submitted about the time a student completes 18 credits. Provisional Graduate Status must be converted to Regular Graduate Status before the Plan of Study is approved.
The Plan of Study identifies (1) courses the student intends to transfer from other institutions (approved by student's SIRLS advisor); (2) UA courses already completed which the student intends to apply toward the graduate degree; and (3) additional course work to be completed to fulfill degree requirements. The Plan of Study must have the approval of the department. You should only list twelve (12) courses on your POS.
Your bursar account will be billed candidacy fees of $35.00 (as of 2007) at the time you submit your Masters/Specialist Plan of Study to the Graduate Degree Certification Office. This is a one-time fee, and you will not be billed again if you change your anticipated graduation date.

Choose "Master's / Specialist Completion of Degree
Requirements"
The Master's/Specialist Completion of Degree Requirements is to be filled out as an update to the classes listed on the Plan of Study. If classes have been taken that were not on the Plan of Study, or not taken that were on the Plan of Study, or were taken at different times than indicated on the Plan of Study, they should be listed in the appropriate Add or Delete areas of the Completion of Degree Requirements form. Classes listed on an approved Plan of Study that were taken as planned do not need to be listed on the Completion of Degree Requirements form.
The Master's/Specialist Completion of Degree Requirements is submitted
during the last semester of study. Please submit one copy to the SIRLS
office.
Students MUST be registered for graduate course work at the University of Arizona
when submitting the Completion form. During the fall and spring semester,
a student must be enrolled in a minimum of three (3) graduate credit hours, during
any of the summer sessions a student must be enrolled in a minimum of
one (1) graduate credit hour.
Please Note:
If a student submits the Completion of Degree Requirements during a
semester he/she does NOT meet the above requirement, the student
will have to petition to retroactively register for coursework to meet
this requirement. This action will incur heavy late penalties and
fines from the Registrar's Office. The School cannot be responsible
for waiving these fines.
Deadlines for Completion of Degree Requirements
Spring graduation: February 1
Summer graduation: May 1
Fall graduation: November 1
Course Justification
For those beginning the program before 2006, the Course Justification should be submitted to your faculty advisor
in the beginning of your last semester. The justification follows standard
report format and is double-spaced text. The introduction outlines academic/career
goals, the exposition outlines the justification or rationale for selection
of courses, and the summary provides an overview of the integration
of courses and academic/career goals. It should be between 3-5 pages
in length. This should be turned in simultaneously with your Completion
of Degree Requirements.
