Transportation
in Tucson
Cars
On-campus
parking can be extremely frustrating. In order to park
your car in one of the lots on campus, it must be registered
with the campus parking department. Call Parking and Transportation
Services at (520) 626-7275 or 626-PARK, or online at http://parking.arizona.edu/
for details on obtaining a parking permit. Most of the
lots near the SIRLS complex have long waiting lists, so
start your permit process early. Metered parking is available
near the Main Library, but space is limited and it is
expensive. It is possible to park off campus and to walk
to classes, but parking on nearby streets is usually limited
to neighborhood residents during class hours, so observe
posted restrictions.
Bikes
Bikes should be registered with the campus parking
department. Call 621-1800 for details. Registration is
free and can speed recovery of your bike in the event
of its theft (unfortunately a frequent event on campus).
Protect your bike with a good U-bolt lock. It is also
a very good idea to wear a protective helmet when riding
a bike anywhere in Tucson -- an ounce of prevention! A
map of Tucson-area bike routes may be found at http://www.pagnet.org/bikemap/bike_map.html.
Ride
the Bus
Sun Tran, Tucson’s city bus system is a viable alternative
to driving. Students are eligible for reduced-rate monthly
and semester passes. Be sure to buy semester passes early,
as numbers are limited.
