SIRLS
Computer Lab
Nine
PC-compatible computers with basic software, a laser printer,
and a scanner are available for student use and learning
at the SIRLS complex in Room 19 on the northeast corner
of the complex. The lab is available on a 24-hour basis,
but you will need the combination to the east (alley-side)
door after office hours (available from SIRLS office staff).
Computers are equipped with high speed Internet and access
to the library's databases.
Students
may choose to bring their own paper to print in the lab.
LSO also provides paper for a nominal fee.
There are quite a few other computer labs on campus which
are open to all students, including a few which feature
Macintosh computers and printers. You will need your CatCard
to get in.
This
technology center in the Reference Rooms of the Main and
Science Libraries is a prototype for the new Integrated
Learning Center (aka "the ILC"). The Info Commons consists
of 12 multimedia workstations that offer Microsoft Office,
Powerpoint, Dreamweaver Web-editing software, networked
laser printers (including one color printer), and PhotoShop.
In addition, two of these multimedia workstations are equipped
with scanners, text recognition (OCR) software, and Zip
drives (accessible from all 12 workstations) and PhotoShop.
One of these stations also includes a VHS VCR with video
capture and editing software. UA students, staff and faculty
(show your CatCard) have priority. Sign-up is required.
These classes on website creation or specific software are
generally held at the Science and Engineering Library. They
are free to UA students, and the instruction is top notch.
No registration required -- just show up! Each class last
about 2 hours, so they are very easy to fit into a busy
schedule. NOTE: You can take advantage of these classes
even if you can't attend them. Each class now has an excellent
text-based version that you can print out. Just locate the
class you want and look for the "Class Handout PDF" link.
You
can also look at handouts created for the UA Library's workshops:
