Our Mission
BiblioTech is a student webzine by and for the students of the Graduate School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS), at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA.
It was conceived by former student, Lori Ito Hardenbergh, followed by editorship of Erica Hanke, Monica Bafetti, and Nancy Bronte-Matheny, to be a place where SIRLS students could sit around and talk about ideas, opinions, and experiences as students of information.
We see it as a forum for the discussion we would have over coffee between classes or over a couple of beers after class - if we all lived in Tucson and didn't have jobs . . . or kids . . . and had lots more free time . . . .
The name of the ' zine, BiblioTech, is meant to evoke our commitment to diversity. The word "biblioteca" in Spanish means "library," and one of the greatest strengths of our school is the way it recognizes the perspectives of Hispanic and Native American communities. The "tech" part speaks to the fact that we recognize the importance of technology in our field.
