Welcome to the Second Annual SIRLS Graduate Student Symposium:

The Information Landscape: Emerging Perspectives

Saturday, November 18, 2006

The Symposium
The UA Library Student Organization (LSO) at the School of Information Resources and Library Science invites you to attend the second annual SIRLS Graduate Student Symposium The Information Landscape: Emerging Perspectives to be held Saturday November 18, 2006. Last year over 75 students and faculty attended the symposium as well as the Tucson-Pima public library director and employees of both the public and university libraries. A summary of last year's presentation topics can be viewed at: http://www.sir.arizona.edu/lso/archives/symposium05/index.html.

This year’s topics include, but are not limited to: information policy; history of libraries/librarianship; intellectual property, copyright and fair use; access to information; libraries/librarianship and social responsibility; and collection development.

This second symposium promises to be an inspiring forum in which graduate students in SIRLS can share their experiences and visions of the field. Similar to professional conferences, the symposium is an opportunity for students to present their scholarly work to peers, SIRLS faculty and the broader library community.

We welcome both students and those interested in attending to explore the symposium website. Please feel free to advertise this event by linking this page to your own website or posting symposium information on your listservs.

The Symposium will take place at the Education Building on the University of Arizona campus. Please see our Parking page for campus maps and parking information.

After-event reception, sponsored by REFORMA Tucson Chapter
Join us after the Symposium from 3:30-6:00 pm for a reception to be held on the 2nd floor of Gentle Ben’s (see www.gentlebens.com).  There will be a cash bar and appetizers will be provided free of charge.  We will also be holding a raffle to help fundraise for similar events we hope to sponsor in the future.  This will be a great chance to network with the Tucson library community.  We hope to see you all there!

Visit the REFORMA website to learn more about their organization.
