Chat Online!
What is this?
We can't all be on campus all the time - even those of us who happen to live in Tucson. LSO's new online chatroom gives you a chance to communicate with your fellow students in real time (or "synchronously," as they say in the learning technologies world). Sometimes LSO will hold scheduled chat sessions for specific purposes, but it is open to all SIRLS students, prospective students, and alumni to use for anything from group study sessions to talking about next semester's class offerings.
How to log in
The easiest way to log in to the site is as a guest. To do this, go to http://oldpueblomoo.arizona.edu and click on "connect" which will take you to a screen that looks like this:
|
You don't want to type anything in at this point. You leave the User ID as "Guest" and leave the password blank. Just click on "Log In." A screen will pop up asking you what you want your name to me during the chat session. (*If you have pop-up blockers in your browser, set it to accept pop-ups on this page.) Use your first name or whatever you want others to know you by. It will also ask you to choose your gender - and there are a lot of choices! Note: For this to work smoothly, you will need to use a computer that has the same settings as you need to use WebCT. If you've never used WebCT, you'll want to click on the "System Requirements" link on this page to see what you need to do. |
You will then be presented with a screen like this:
|
In the place where the arrow is pointing, type in the following phrase: @go
Library_Student_Organization |
|
And this is what you'll see! The area with the red type is where you type what you want to say. The 3 radio buttons to the right are "normal","say," and "emote." If you click on "say," then everything you type is like chatting. You can use "emote" to use verbs and a bunch of other fun things. In the right hand area, you'll see some more instructions and links to sub-chatrooms within the main LSO chatroom. If you ever get lost in the different rooms, hitting the "look" button along the top of the screen will get you back to the main page. |
