Subject: Library catalog
Description: Lib-web-cats is a part of Library Technology Guides website, http://www.librarytechnology.org, which aims to provide comprehensive and objective information related to the field of library automation. This site has no affiliation with any library automation company. Two directories that this website maintains are useful for teaching and learning Information Organization. The first is lib-web-cats, a directory of libraries throughout the world; lib-web-cats is a directory of libraries worldwide and when the library has an OPAC that is hyperlinked. While the majority of the current listings are in North America, the numbers of libraries represented in other parts of the globe is growing. Each listing includes links to the library's website and online catalog. Other information available includes the geographic location, address, library type, current and previous library automation systems used, and the size of the library's collection. An advanced search is also available. The second directory is Library Companies, a database of library companies which provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive listing of companies that develop and market library automation systems. To be included in this resource, the company must offer a fully integrated library system, not just a single module other library-related services. Each listing includes all the basic contact information about the company, the names of the products they offer. When available the names and positions of the executive management of the company, and all business mergers and acquisitions that the company has experienced are also listed. Buttons are provided that automatically provide information related to each company.

Title: Z39.50 Gateway to Library catalogs
Location/Identifier: URL: http://www.lcweb.loc.gov/z3950/gateway.html
Subject: Library catalog
Keyword: Z39.50
Description: This is the Library of Congress web page for gateway access to LC's catalog and those at many other institutions. Z39.50 is a national and international (ISO 23950) standard defining a protocol for computer-to-computer information retrieval. Z39.50 makes it possible for a user in one system to search and retrieve information from other computer systems (that have also implemented Z39.50) without knowing the search syntax that is used by those other systems. The catalogs at other libraries are provided as a hyperlink and the Z39.50 implementation information is provided in parenthesis next to the name. This is an interactive service once you click on the links as they link you to the library catalog.
