Biography
Assistant Professor Anita S. Coleman studies the application of the classic library methods of classification and cataloging to digital information. Her textbook, Guide to Selecting and Cataloging Quality WWW Resources for the Small Library, is an important tool for community college libraries. “From Cataloging to Metadata,” an article exploring the use of Dublin Core in the library catalog, will appear in Cataloging & Classification Quarterly in August 2005. A former technology librarian, Anita works in the area of digital libraries and is building, with colleagues, a digital library for LIS, the Digital Library of Information Science and Technology along with an open access aggregator and federated search service, DL-Harvest. She teaches controlled vocabularies, cataloging and metadata management, history of classification, information-seeking behavior, and organization of information. Anita is also developing a digital library course.
