Wilding Appointed as Visiting Associate Professor of Practice

SIRLS is delighted to announce the appointment of Tom Wilding as a visiting Associate Professor of Practice for the academic year 2006-2007. Tom brings to SIRLS a wealth of experience in librarianship, teaching and advising drawn from a professional career spanning 48 years of practical and academic appointments.

Tom earned his master's degree in library science from Simmons College in 1988 and has served most recently as the Director of Libraries at the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior appointments include Senior Associate Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries, and Administrative Librarian for the Smithsonian Institution.

Teaching appointments include the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. Tom has had a high national and international profile as a library leader. He has also received high praise from colleagues for his outstanding rapport with students and his dedication to the profession.

This fall, Tom will be teaching IRLS 561, Academic Libraries in the 21st Century and IRLS 608, Planning & Evaluation of Library & Information Centers. He will also be the SIRLS Academic Advising Coordinator.
