Jana Bradley named Director for Arizona

The School of Information Resource and Library Science, University of Arizona is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jana Bradley as Professor and Director, effective August, 2004.

Jana Bradley leaves her post as Associate Professor and Director of the MLIS program in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University where she led a planning process to review and revise the curriculum, developed a certificate of Advanced studies in Digital Libraries, and established the 21st Century Librarian Award.

From 1993 to 1999 she was Assistant Dean and Director of the LIS program for Indiana University in Indianapolis.

She has been an Applied Informatics Fellow at the National Library of Medicine, an Assistant Professor at GSLIS, University of Illinois and Director of Libraries at DePauw University.

Other positions held include: Branch Librarian in the LA County Library system, Library-Media Director of the Wishard Memorial Hospital Library, Serials Librarian at El Camino College and Editor of Youth Publications for the Curtis Publishing Company.

Dr. Bradley holds a BA degree from Bryn Mawr, an MA from the University of Pennsylvania, an MLS from UCLA, and the PhD in Library/Information Science from the University of Illinois. Dr. Bradley’s research and publication relates to roles and activities of librarians in the digital age, the evolution of the LIS profession, and digital content.

She was president of the Medical Library Association in 1995-96, and was elected Fellow of the MLA 2003. Among many other awards she has received the Eliot Prize for Outstanding Publication in Medical Librarianship.

Bradley replaces Brooke E. Sheldon who is retiring in June and commented, “Arizona is extremely fortunate to attract Jana Bradley with her breadth of LIS education administrative, teaching and research experience and strong ties with practice. With her energy and leadership skills, Arizona will be THE program to watch.”
